JV Achievers
- Vinayak Doraiswamy
got selected as one of the top two investigators in the world in the field of
reproductive physiology. Vinu was awarded the new investigator award 2nd
place at the annual meetings of the Society for the Study of Reproduction
(SSR) at Portland, Oregon on the 5th of Aug, 97. It was agreat honor
considering this was an international meeting and the most prominent
in that field were present
- Jawaharite stands 2nd in the Indian Civil Services exam
Siddique, of the class of '89 at Jawahar Vidyalaya, stood second in the Civil Services examination. Kudos to the Jawaharite IAS officer!

Class of '92:
I am currently enrolled in a PhD programme in the University of New Mexico,
med school.I also work as a GRA at the Los Alamos National Lab.Well, I got
married about 6 months ago and my husband works at LANL too.
Before this, I was pursuing my dissertation work for the completion of my
masters in microbiology from the National Institute of Immunology. My
batch mates include Sumithra[You must know of her brothers Sudharshan and
Srinivasan and sis ,all from JV.], K.K. Anand, Archana, Arun etc etc. We
passed out in '92. Two of our batch mates are in the US now. Rajasekar is
at Clarkson and Sumi is joining the Ohio univ in june for her phd.
Memoirs of JV
I really miss those days we spent at JV, the children's day
celebrations,the sports day craze, our teachers and everything. The spirit
of JV was really great. I recall Ambujavalli's biology classes,the
interhouse competitions, the rehersals for group sing ing ,the auditions
for all those comps and sports with fondness. I would really like to get
in touch with many of my classmates and seniors.
Updates on JV
I had been to school in dec last. Things have really not changed much.
Ambujavalli[bio] is the principal now.Alfie is the v.p. Our time V.P.
Pattamal has got herself a teaching position in BITS,Pilani. Elizabeth is
theNehru house teacher, Lakshmi[maths ] is the Saro h.t. For Indira its
still good old Shaheeda and for Tagore UPK.
About my batchmates
I had writtern about Sumithra.She will be in the US on the 8th of june and
will pursue her phd from Ohio state univ. Rajasekar.v , also my classmate
, is now in clarkson univ,US. Three people are in IIT. They have given
their final exams. N. Ananthkumar has just given his final exams in Chem
eng from IIT Madras. Rajeshwari is finishing from IIT kharagpur this year.
R.Arun must have passed out last year from IIT Madras but I am not intouch
with him. Of the people who went to BITS,K.K.Anand is finishing a five
year course this year. He did his BE computers+ MSc mathematics. Jaya.v
passed out last year .She is currently working with Tata
consultancy,Madras. S.Arun has finished his BE comp and is now working in
Vetri software Madras. S.Archana is working in citibank,Madras. Yamini.k.
is doing her MSc in microbiology ,same as\ I but fri=om Dhanapal college
in Madras. I know in detail about most other pals of mine too. We are
keeping intouch so far [Good show,uh?]
i'm presently working for vetri software and soon shall be relocating
to bangalore to work with IMR.

Memoirs of JV :
1. Alfi(Mrs. Alfonso Jacob), Mrs. Elizabeth Thomas("It has already been
published" - I guess Gautam and Mahesh know what I am talking about
!)and Shangsu(The incredible laugh-every-minute man!) and of course the
Begum Sisters and their bag of Potato chips.
2. The great friends I am proud about.
3. And uggh.....The assembly and the prefects.
4. How can I forget Narayini at the computer center or Laila(Salt
Analysis) at the chem lab. Mrs. Geeta the chemistry teacher(She could
handle a course in ballistics: I used to get my test note books right on
my table, and how!!!!) and our physics teacher Mrs. Padmakshi who I
sort of admire. What an incredible lady, and such grace !
5. I guess there are a lot more esp. about The Principal Mr. The one and
only Sivasami("BEEEEEEG head and a small body", " How can they be so
careless? What will happen if somebody throws a lit match on the
atombombs") and the general politics. "Partiality", hush-hush
discussions about rather taboo things(We were rather conservative, we
were) and the works.

I spent my initial years of education (about 4 years) in Jawahar Vidhyalaya. I studied there long back (LKG - 2nd Standard). The memories of a small zoo in the school, the pranks I did (like going straight to 2nd standard on the very first day of my school when every body was searching for me) are still fresh, though I hardly rememeber the whereabouts of any of my friends. Those were the best childhood days. I studied later in TVS Lakshmi, Madurai. My parents live in Mahadevan Street, West Mambalam, pretty close to Ashok Nagar. I graduated from high school in 1989 (from TVS Lakshmi, Madurai) and later did my B.E Computer Science from REC Trichy (1989-93). I work for CBS Inc. in Sacramento, CA. I still remember Roopa teacher very well :-) Great Job!!!
I am sure you recollet these 2 incidents as well. We guys were in 6th grade. There was a Hindi teacher named Rupa. Her husband was waiting to pick her up one day when we guys from the 3rd floor threw stuff at him (trash?). I can recollect the tantrum that she threw the next day - as if that was an occupational hazard that Mr. Rupa was not used to. We also had a teacher for Hist. & Geography (again the same wonderful 6th grade) by the name Kannamma. Some seniors used to say: "A shout a day keeps Kannamma away". I was gald that we took that advice seriously
I can write pages about my JV memories, 'aana ezhudanumnu naikumbodu dan vartha muttudu...(Ofcourse I picked up the dialogue from one of my favourite movies GUNA)'. I studied from 1st std to 10th std in JV. I did my 12th at Kendriya Vidyalaya, Madurai. Amandeep, Srinivas and me share our B'date. Lived in Sarvamagala colony, Ashok Nagar. I remember Radha - my sanskrit teacher, Bhanumathi - Chemistry, Roopa - Hindi... Kanakavalli - Hist. list goes on...
